Establishment of SBOMS

The Syrian Board of Medical Specialties SBOMS was founded in the middle of 2015. The board’s establishment concept resulted from:

  1. Due to the Syrian crisis, a large number of doctors were unable to complete their specialization.
  2. Shortage of doctors and specialized medical personnel.
  3. The continuous and systematic targeting of medical personnel in their various specializations.
  4. Many resident physicians are leaving Syria to continue their education.
  5. There is an ongoing need to supply the health sector with specialized doctors, supervise their training, and evaluate their work.

Accreditation

  • The Syrian Board of Medical Specialties certificates are widely accepted in northwestern Syria and recognized by all health organizations and institutions.
  • SBOMS-certified doctors are considered specialists in Turkish hospitals in northern Aleppo.
  • As part of our efforts to accredit the SBOMS certificate, we are currently working with Turkish health and education authorities.

Compatibility with other Boards

SBOMS Curriculum, training program, and exams are 80-90% compatible with the Syrian Commission for Medical Specialties in Damascus, the Arab Board of Health Specializations for all Arab Countries, and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
